Kindergarten

Students must be 5 years old by October 1st to take part in SCA’s  kindergarten program. In March, those who have applied and paid the registration fee will be tested to see if they are ready for school – socially, as well as academically. We use the A Beka program, almost exclusively, at this level. The phonics/reading program is an excellent program that enables students to read well by the end of the year. The 5-day, full-day program gives more time for learning and academically engaging activities for the students.
Arithmetic involves counting, telling time and learning various math concepts. Manipulatives and visuals are frequently used to enhance learning. Bible has a very important place in our classrooms. The children learn to apply biblical character qualities to their lives each day. This, in turn, enhances social skills development  as students learn to share, be kind and treat each other with respect. There are verses to learn, songs to sing and fun to be had!
Our program is taught using a traditional approach to education with variations, as required, to meet the needs of all learners. The more “academic” material is taught in the mornings. The afternoons are spent reinforcing what was taught in the morning with games and other activities. There are structured times as well as learning centers and free time. Kindergarten can become a very special memory for a child. We look to the Lord to see our program do just that – create special times that will not be forgotten.
