Grace Prep at SCA

Another strong performance from the Lady Eagles resulted in an 8-0 victory over Grace Prep on Tuesday. The girls lit up the scoreboard four times within the first ten minutes of the game with two goals from Cierra Gross, one from Marissa Spangler and an own goal resulting from a deflection off a GP defender.

After mixing the line up a bit, the Lady Eagles tallied four more in the second half with Cierra Gross getting her third and fourth goals of the afternoon, Marissa Spangler adding a second to her tally and Faith Wolfe getting her first of the season off a direct kick that dipped under the crossbar. Becky Gingrich recorded her third clean sheet of the season.

Slow start for the Eagles today as they fell behind 2-0 in the first half. The defense picked up their game and the offense started to distribute the ball better as the Eagles started to get more shots off. With 28 minutes left in the game the Eagles earned a corner kick on the left side of Grace’s net. Blake Spangler-Jones lined things up and rookie Conner Carey received a perfectly placed ball as he headed it in the net for the first goal of his career. Sparked by the goal SCA kept up the offensive pressure when Blake Spangler-Jones sent a long ball to Karch Carey as he broke through Grace Preps defense to break away and score an equalizer with 20 minutes left in the game. With the final horn sounding the teams were headed for overtime. The Eagles found themselves in a mix up in front of their net when Grace Prep was awarded a penalty kick with 2:15 left in OT as they were able to put the ball past SCA keeper Alex Santiago for the game winner. Great effort by the guys today, tough way to end the game though.

Both teams are back in action Friday night as SCA will host Northumberland Christian.
