JMS at SCA

Good night for both teams as they both won their ACAA match ups today with Juniata Mennonite.

The girls fell behind early in the first half by two as JMS poured on  the offensive pressure. With 12 minutes left in the first half Brianna Baumert scored with an assist from Cierra Gross. Just a short time later JMS found the back of the net again to put the Lady Lions ahead 3-1. Determined, the Lady Eagles Abby Daddario found the back of the net with an assist from Christy Powlus. The Lady Eagles finished the half down 3-2. Coming out from the half time  break Christy Powlus scored just two minutes into the second half. Powlus playing energized scored again just four minutes later to pull her team ahead by one. JMS was down but not out as they scored two quick goals minutes apart. Christy Powlus scored an equalizer with 11:27 left in the game . The Lady Eagles kept up the offensive pressure as Cierra Gross broke free down the left sideline and scored unassisted with seven minutes left in the game. The Lady Eagles defense locked down as they held on for an exciting victory with a final score of 6-5.

The Eagles started off much the same way as the girls as they fell behind early as JMS scored just three minutes into the first half. Branden Sheaffer answered back just two minutes later to tie the game. JMS struck again within one minute of Sheaffer’s goal with a blast from 25 yards out. Blake Spangler-Jones on a beautiful direct kick into the upper 90 tied the game just a few minutes later. Both teams went to their benches for half time tied at two. Today’s game had a lot riding on it as it would give the Eagles the needed points for a spot in the playoffs. The defense played aggressively as they won the battle in the air and continued to feed their offensive line. Alan Goecke scored the go ahead goal on a feed from defender Blake Spangler-Jones. Sheaffer scored an assurance goal just a few minutes after his missed penalty kick to give the Eagles a much-needed cushion. JMS continued to keep up the offensive pressure but the Eagles defense was able to find an answer for their attacks. To finish the game off, Karch Carey kept JMS at bay as he scored the fifth goal of the night for the Eagles with just 15 minutes left in the game. As the horn sounded, the Eagles finished the game with a 5-2 win.
