SCA at Line Mountain Tournament

Mixed results today at the Line Mountain Tournament. The guys started the day off in the first game of the tournament against Line Mountain. Things were pretty even for the first five minutes of the game as both teams exchanged shots and most of the play was occurring in the midfield of the pitch. SCA opened the scoring up  with a send from Alan Goecke to Branden Sheaffer as Sheaffer found the back of the net 18:24 into the first half. Minutes later the SCA Eagles missed a beautiful head ball when it hit the post of the upper left 90. Line Mt. started to buckle down on offense as the Eagles goal keeper Patrick Slackman had his skills tested until the halftime break. The second half started with both teams firing off shots and both offenses and defenses were working hard to win the game. SCA’s defense was able to keep Line Mt. out of the net as the closing buzzer sounded with SCA earning a trip to the championship game with a 1-0 win.

The Eagles faced the Northumberland Warriors in the championship game. The first 10 minutes was played evenly as both teams were unable to tally any goals. The Warriors were able to capitalize on a mistake by SCA defensmen as they mishandled the ball and Norry found the ball and scored at 14:58.  The rest of the first half had both teams playing evenly with  SCA coming to the sideline for halftime only down by one. Disaster struck 20 seconds into the second half as SCA defense had an own goal caused by a misdirected clear deep in SCA territory. SCA was able to shake off the mistakes with Brandon Sheaffer making an unassisted goal just two minutes later. Both Norry and SCA were able to record another goal in this low shot game (6-3) as SCA came away with a 4-2 loss and a second place finish in the tournament. Aside from the few mistakes the Eagles played well. The Eagles will get a two-day rest before heading to Columbia County on Tuesday September 4. The Lady Eagles faced a much more experienced Line Mountain Girls team for their opening game in this tournament. The Lady Eagles were holding their own on defense until a high shot found its way into the back of the net over The Lady Eagles keeper Maddie Latshaw. Line Mt. fed off of the momentum as they scored three more unanswered goals to finish off the first half. Heading into the second half the Lady Eagles were able to hold off the Line Mt. Ladies and kept them scoreless but were also unable to find an answer to the earlier four goals as the Lady Eagles finished the game with a 4-0 loss.

Heading into the consolation game the young Lady Eagles faced old-time rival Norry Christian.  3:15  into the first half the Lady Eagles found themselves down by one. The Lady Eagles defense was able to stand their ground as they held Norry scoreless for the rest of the first half. The Lady Eagles played well but were unable to capitalize on their shots on net as they finished the game down 3-0.
