Stock Market Game

What would you do if you were given $100,000? Would you spend it all at once? Would you think about putting some of it in the bank? Through The Stock Market Game (SMG), students gain a fundamental understanding of investing and how you get your money to work for you.

From February to early April, over 20 students from Sunbury Christian Academy were in competition against over 770 other teams across the state in the Pennsylvania Stock Market Game. The simulation involves students being able to invest fake money in real stocks that increase or decrease in value based real time in the stock market. The students begin with $100,000 each and must invest their money wisely based on current trends, and must also calculate such things as broker’s fees when making decisions.

At the end of the game, Jed Stuck and Brianna Baumert ranked 13 out of 513 and Tommy Abraham and Colton Long ranked 52 out of 513 finishing third among High Schools in the area. The Middle School team did even better with Brayden Long and Ethan Smith finishing 4th out of 264 and Colton Newbury and Kyle Hendrickson ranking 31 out of 264. The Middle School teams finished second among local middle schools in the area being surpassed only by Milton!

Thank you to Mr. Bastian for providing guidance and for leading the stock market teams.  Congratulations to all the students who participated.
